78 kms from Gangtok, Namchi is located at an altitude of 1,675 m above sea level and is also known as the capital of South Sikkim. Set in a picturesque location, Namchi offers an unmatched view of the Kanchenjunga range and the Rangit valley. With its prime attraction of the 135 feet statue of Guru Padmasambhava in Samdruptse monastery, majestic views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and the Chaar Dhaam point on Solophok Hilltop, Namchi is slowly becoming one of the most popular tourist destination of Sikkim. The grand view of sunset over Lord Shiva's statue and in the backdrop of mighty Kanchenjunga will certainly mesmerise the tourists. According to historical records, Namchi was the place where the princess Pende Ongmoo poisoned one of the Chogyals of Sikkim, but was later caught and killed. It is believed that her spirit still looms large over the horizon.

The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Station as it is located some 90 kms from Namchi. But if you go by plane, then the nearest airport is Bagdogra which is about 96 km from Namchi.
